Bone densitometry is a test to determine the mineral density of bones. It is used for the diagnosis of osteoporosis. The test is performed with the device that measures the images and gives a figure of the amount of bone mineral per surface. Densitometry is recommended in the following cases:
- Postmenopausal women who are candidates for hormone replacement therapy.
- Suspected vertebral fracture or crushing on conventional radiography.
- Long-term corticosteroid treatment.
- Asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism.
